Swift Thoughts

Design

The JLab Go Air Pop earphones are smooth, compact and sturdy. The earphones have no stem section so have a slightly bulkier shape, but that has its benefits when it comes to noise reduction and battery life! Up to 8 hours of playback on a single charge is a claim not many earphones can match!

Additionally, the Go Air Pops come in a refreshingly different range of colours. I particularly like how the logo is displayed–subtle and inoffensive, just a transparent gloss layer with more sheen.

Audio Performance

For the price, you really can’t complain with the audio quality. They sound pretty good and there are a range of EQ profiles to suit different tastes. 8mm neodymium drivers provide a nice range and crystal clear audio.

Comfort

The JLab earphones come supplied with a choice of soft silicone ear tips. I particularly like earphones with this feature as they make it much easier to wear them for prolonged periods. You’ll have no problems watching an epic-length movie or using them whilst studying all day.

Build Quality

The JLab Go Air Pop earbuds are a well-made and sturdy looking product. I’ve found this is common with products with come with an IPX (waterproof) rating of 4 or more. In order to achieve this the build-quality and seals needs to meet a certain standard. A rating of 4 means the Go Air Pops are both sweatproof and splashproof, but not completely airtight, so not fully waterproof.

Functionality

JLab have added some nice features, not always seen in earphones in this price bracket. Firstly, each earphone can work independently, so you can wear one and keep the other fully charged in the case. Secondly, there are magnets in the charging case, this stops the earbuds accidentally falling out. Thirdly, the case has a built-in charging cable. That’s one less thing to remember when you’re on the go–why don’t more manufacturers do this?

Tech Talk

Bluetooth 5.0 and beyond – what does it do?

Bluetooth is a type of wireless technology that helps one device pair with another in order for data (usually audio) to be transferred wirelessly.

You may have noticed a lot of products boast that they have Bluetooth version 5.0 (or higher) built-in. What’s so special about version 5.0? There have been many improvements within the technology over the years, but in brief Bluetooth 5.0 has these improvements over its predecessors:

  • Improved reliability
  • Extended range
  • Faster data transfer speeds

Improved reliability means that a wireless connection is less likely to suddenly fail for no obvious reason.

Extended range means that a device will stay connected with its paired device across longer distances.

Faster data transfer speeds offers both higher quality audio as well as greatly reduced audio lag when watching video content.
